Lean Not Unto Thine Own Understanding…
A morning this week, I headed out to the Dollar Tree. One of my favorite places to go, something about it just makes me all giddy on the inside… I mean… come on, I think it’s because of all the goodies for ONE DOLLAR… Pencils, pens, hair bows, fingernail polish, chocolates, toys, cards (love cards!), flip flops…the possibilities are endless. Each time I go in, I find different things. I love going in during different seasons to see what all they have. I usually have to tell myself, “Enough!”… because I could easily let myself fill a buggy until it’s full! Haha… Anyways!!… As I was walking into the Dollar Tree, I suddenly whispered out loud to myself (Yes, out loud… Haha…something I always thought my Granny’s were silly for doing)… “Lean not on my own understanding.” It just sort of popped out of my mouth. I don’t even know why?… I was having a perfectly fine morning and then there that was coming out of my lips. Once I said it, I thought… “Hmm… I have heard this verse a dozen times but I can’t seem to remember where it is in the Bible.”
Well, during my adventure in the Dollar Tree, after finding my Daddy the best card for his birthday (Happy Birthday, Daddy!!) I mozied on down the book aisle. Taking my sweet time, trying to soak up all the neat stuff. I looked at the coloring books, some children’s book that was about bugs, a couple of books that had scripture in them, and then I noticed the Bibles. Wow, Bibles in the Dollar Tree… The word about my Jesus right there for anyone to buy for only $1. I immediately grabbed a couple… thinking of how I had been meaning to take a Bible to my beauty shop in case I had any down time to read instead of just watching tv or playing Candy Crush (love me some Candy Crush!)… but especially in case someone ever needed prayer or simply some uplifting scriptures. (Yes, I could simply look it up on my phone, but there is just something about having it in black and white, especially the words written in red, where I can highlight, underline, and simply hold the WORD in my hands)… I also bought one, thinking I might give to someone I meet along life’s journey who I thought might not have one… What a great thing to have at a Dollar Tree!
Little did I know, a little down time at the beauty shop would be exactly what I had that same day. Remember me mentioning, I had heard and read this scripture before, but couldn’t remember what book or chapter… (I’m usually one who has to look in back of the Bible or google it before I can go to where it is in the Bible)… Apparently, the LORD wanted me to focus on that same scripture again, because I opened my newly purchase Bible to… Proverbs 3… started reading only to come to verse 5 & 6…
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
Wow… Just Wow… part of the same scripture I had just whispered earlier that morning. I had just read a little quote earlier in the week on Pinterest, “Don’t say God is silent when your Bible is closed.” AMEN! Opening His word reassured me that something in my day needed His direction… it didn’t need my direction… I needed to be reminded to trust Him with all of my heart, put aside my reasoning and simply give Him my day. To let His will be done…
He will speak to us… We must seek Him… Take time to be with Him, speak to Him (OUT LOUD) just like talking to your family or best friend. Like I mentioned, I was going about my morning and suddenly spoke His words out loud… He knows why He gave me those words to speak and to read on the same day. I am so grateful for the blessings that come from HIM.
On my Daddy’s birthday, he and I saw this precious baby deer, so young it still had spots… I thought it was so sweet, I just had to share it.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Isaiah 40:11
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. Genesis 1:30
GOD BLESS YOU!!! *Betsy*
